Userplane ID’s Go Live!
As most users and administrators of Userplane Instant Webchat have already seen – Userplane
ID’s are now live! Anyone can still jump in with just a screen name, but for
users that want permanent screen names, photos, and profiles – there are two new buttons:
“Create Profile” and “Login”. These new accounts work across the
entire network of Userplane Instant Communities unless individual sites choose to restrict access.
Userplane ID’s were launched as soon as there were enough features to add value for the
millions of Instant Userplane users. Since launch, we’ve had excellent feedback from
thousands and been hard at work engineering the next round of features and improvements. Below,
we have listed some of the most important upcoming features. As always, send us your
feedback
– our dedicated development team takes it very seriously.

new community beyond Userplane.
New Media-Rich Web Community for Music and Film Enthusiasts Launches Userplane
Userplane announces the integration of Webchat and Webmessenger into the innovative and ambitious
new community, PLAYiNDIES – a
social networking site that features and supports emerging independent artists.
Currently in BETA, PLAYiNDIES will globally deliver independent digital music and film content
to a niche market, while also serving as a launching pad for both emerging and established talent.
Also launching a B2B aspect of its business, PLAYiNDIES will offer streaming media products and
services that are designed to create, protect, manage, and distribute digital media. The services
are aimed at independent musicians, filmmakers, labels, promoters, and distributors.
“PLAYiNDIES recognizes the obstacles that artists face today and believes our service,
enhanced with Userplane’s technology, supports the PLAYiNDIES business objectives: to
promote, support, and develop creative communities – and ultimately empower a new breed
of artists. Userplane applications are very robust, flexible, and effective. They complement
our services and provide a key element in building web community,” said Brayden Styles,
Senior Director of Creative and Media for PLAYiNDIES.com.
Unlike traditional Java- and HTML-based chat solutions, Userplane Webchat and Webmessenger
offer cross-platform functionality, performing with ease on virtually all operating systems.
While Java chat rooms frequently create customer support challenges because of platform
inconsistencies, Flash comes pre-installed on Windows XP, and works seamlessly on both
Macintosh and Linux platforms. Current studies show that Flash is installed on more than
98 percent of internet browsers.

Userplane Announces Drupal Plug-in and New Feature for Webchat
Userplane recently expanded the market reach of its free Instant Webchat application through the release of plug-in modules
for community software platforms. With plug-ins already available for Simple Machines, vBulletin,
Mambo and PHP-Nuke, Userplane is excited to announce the addition of the new
Drupal plug-in.
This exciting new release will allow Drupal developers and administrators to quickly and easily
add Userplane instant messaging and chat to their sites. Drupal has a rapidly growing developer
community that is continuously improving the platform’s usability and functionality.
It is fast becoming one of the best and most popular open-source solutions for user-contributed,
content-based communities.
The Userplane plug-in installation includes pre-written code modules, available for
free
download to allow quick and easy installation. Since these site software systems have
existing admin panels, site administrators can control all Userplane application features
and functionality with ease within one location. By opening up its API to these platforms,
Userplane embraces the open source community making Webchat and Webmessenger simple add-ons
for any website.
The Userplane plug-in is available for free download and includes pre-written code modules
– allowing quick and easy installation. Since Drupal and the other Userplane-supported
site software platforms have existing admin panels, Userplane administration is integrated
and can be controlled centrally. By opening up its API to these platforms, Userplane is embracing
the open source community and making Webchat and Webmessenger simple, must-have add-ons for
any community site.
“Drupal is emerging as one of the most exciting community application platforms available
to developers. We are happy to be a part of the Drupal community and excited to open our API
for quick development and plug-in expansion into systems such as these,” said Michael
Jones, co-founder and CEO of Userplane.
In other Apps news – Userplane released the highly requested archiving feature for Webchat,
now allowing integrated clients to maintain chat histories, logs of user activity, and create
full audits on Webchat activity.
“We have clients that want to allow their Webchat transcripts to be fully indexed by the
search engines or dynamically broadcasted to large audiences for live events. The new archiving
feature allows each site to use the content flexibly – driving additional traffic to their
website,” explains Jones.
Additionally, Userplane adds customizable background colors, button skins, and resizable windows
for Webmessenger.
After much anticipation, sites can now deploy Userplane’s Flash instant messaging tool
with either globally-set color themes or opt for site-specified colors and button skins.
