LOS ANGELES (April 18, 2005)—Userplane, a pioneer in developing
innovative social software, today announced announced that its
Webchat application has been named a winner in The
Horizon Interactive Awards,
a leading international interactive media awards competition.
The fourth annual international Horizon Awards program honored
excellence in interactive media production among multimedia developers
worldwide. Userplane was recognized for excellence in interactive
media production with a Bronze award in the Flash category.
Beyond generic and ubiquitous chat rooms, Userplane Webchat is a
feature-rich, multi-lingual, centrally hosted and easily integrated
Flash App that enables real-time text messaging and streaming
audio/video communication for any website.
Leveraging Macromedia’s robust Flash Communication
Server technology, Webchat enables community, dating, corporate
and collaborative websites to rapidly deploy a scalable, audio
and video enabled chat room for their users. The application is
easily and seamlessly integrated with existing user databases,
login systems, and buddy lists through fast and simple XML and any
web scripting language. Userplane recently expanded the market reach
of its chat application by releasing Instant Webchat. Sites can
cut and paste a simple script and place the multi-user, multi-room,
audio/video application onto any web page.
“We are thrilled about this recognition, because Webchat
is an especially important platform for our clients and for our
direction as a company,” said Michael Jones, co-founder
and CEO of Userplane. “Given the extraordinary number
and quality of this year’s submissions, receiving this
award is even more gratifying.”
The 2005 competition received hundreds of entries from 15 countries
including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan,
New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland,
United Kingdom, and nearly all 50 US states. A panel of judges, who
consisted of various industry professionals with diverse backgrounds,
evaluated 11 different categories. The 2005 award winning entries
showcase the best developed web sites, CD-ROMs, DVDs, audio, video,
kiosks, video games and other interactive media.
“We are continually amazed at the creativity and imagination
of the designers and developers who enter the competition,”
said Mike Sauce, president of the Horizon Interactive Awards.
“The winners in the 2005 competition demonstrated an effective
blend between technical excellence and artistic style on a new level.
The winners this year have utilized the electronic mediums with real
purpose and style, many times pushing the envelope for innovative
solutions that deliver real value to their clients and
end-users.”
The Horizon Interactive Awards holds the annual competition
in early spring of each year. Judging takes place by a panel of
judges comprised of seasoned, well respected industry professionals.
Judges represent various aspects of the interactive media industry,
which includes executives, marketing, sales, design, and development
professionals and end-users.
