With Webmessenger 2, Any Online Community Can Offer Private IM That Enables Users to Manage IM Status and Buddy Lists
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (May 15, 2007) -
Userplane,
the premier communication platform for online communities, today released Webmessenger 2, a major enhancement
to the world’s most widely used Web-based instant messaging platform. The new offering integrates IM,
user presence and buddy list, giving online communities three products in one for a complete solution.
Userplane’s upgraded messaging platform now provides comprehensive, 360-degree instant messaging
to any website. Members of participating online communities can now display when they are online, easily
manage buddies, find other online users and launch IMs.
“From startups to social-networking giants, online communities turn to Userplane Webmessenger
to build that real sense of belonging,” said Michael Jones, CEO of Userplane and vice president of AOL.
“Webmessenger 2 gives sites even more compelling ways to keep their members connected, and the cost
for all the new functionality still starts at free.”
Webmessenger 2 enhancements include:
- Presence the ability to detect which site members are online at any given time. Userplane Presence,
a simple but robust back-end technology, is now fully integrated into Webmessenger 2. It enables users
to see who is online, receive site notifications and message each other.
- Userlist the friendly face of Userplane Presence, enables users to upload images and icons, set
custom here and away messages, manage their buddies and IM each other, all from one easy-to-use, brandable
space. Known as Userplane Userlist, the new feature debuted last month. Advanced Userlist features, such
as multi-user chat integration, multi-user games and saved buddies, are currently in development.
- Improved rich text, voice, and video IM communication based on feedback from clients and millions
of daily users who use Webmessenger for everything from live events to e-learning – making the gold
standard for Web-based messaging even better.
More than 150,000 social networking communities, media entertainment properties and niche communities deploy
Userplane Webmessenger, enabling millions of daily users in more than 30 countries to communicate. Existing
users can upgrade to the new release simply by cutting and pasting a few lines of HTML code into their sites.
“Online communities have widely adopted the Instant Install version of Userplane Webmessenger –
a simple, copy-and-paste method for creating a private IM network within any website,” said Jones.
“The new Webmessenger 2 offering further enhances this application, enabling all our partnered communities
to further increase user engagement.”
Userplane offers free, ad-supported Userplane Webmessenger 2 packages and is planning to launch an advertising
revenue-sharing program in the next 60 days.
Userplane applications give websites full administrative control. Webmasters can easily integrate Userplane
tools with existing member databases via XML and customize each deployment to match their sites’ business
models and branding.
Userplane offers cross-platform functionality, performing with ease on virtually all operating systems. All
Userplane products run entirely on UserplaneĆs network and are built for enterprise reliability.
